Description

Step into the dimly lit, smoke-filled atmosphere of 1970s Brooklyn with Andrei Codrescu's A Bar in Brooklyn: Novellas & Stories 1970-1978. This evocative collection captures the raw energy and quiet desperation of a city in transition, told through stories that feel like late-night conversations. Codrescu weaves together the lives of strangers and old friends in a setting that becomes more than a backdrop — it becomes a character in its own right.\n\nEach story is a vignette of urban life, capturing the specific rhythms of the 1970s New York scene. From the desperate hustle to the moments of unexpected connection, Codrescu delivers fiction that is both gritty and deeply human. The prose is lean and evocative, making the setting feel lived-in and authentic. Whether you're a fan of contemporary fiction or a lover of 70s New York, this collection is a must-read.
